Don’t Limit God
If there were no limits —- if money was no object—-if age didn’t matter—-if the Lord, our God, gave you supernatural ability —-what is it that would really make you feel like you are making a difference? I’d like to challenge you to ponder that question as you embark on the 2nd month of 2017. God has a great plan for each of our lives. He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Even though He gives us this great promise, we still sometimes, limit Him in working in our lives.
How do we limit Him? I’d like to suggest three ways by which we limit Him and should work on in 2017.
1) by our fears
2) by our lack of faith and
3) by our lack of trust
Many of us allow fear to trap us in not moving ahead. Many are afraid of failure. Many are even afraid of success. Some are afraid of what someone will say or think. Isaiah 41:13 states “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the One who helps you.” In essence, God is saying “don’t limit Me with your fears. I am here for you.”
While our faith in God should cause us to forge ahead in spite of any hindrances, the main reason we struggle with faith is that we don’t truly know the God in whom we profess to have faith. We need to be constantly reminded of what Christ has done for us and what our response should be. In Romans 10:17 the apostle Paul says, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” . Studying the Word of God should increase our faith Him. Spending time in prayer, praise and worship should cause our faith to increase. In 2017, I pray that we will walk by faith and not by sight. Walking by sight limits God. Allow your faith to overtake your sight and watch God work in your life.
Finally, we limit God by a lack of trust in Him. Proverbs 3:5-7 states “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” The problem is we depend on our own understanding as opposed to His. Learning to trust God comes by getting to know His trustworthy character and the track record of faithfulness to His promises. God keeps His promises and He will reward your trust in them.
This year start to imagine there are no limits —- money is no object—-age does matter—-God has given you supernatural ability. What difference will you have made in your life at the end of 2017?
God has an awesome plan for your life! Don’t limit Him in 2017 and watch His plan unfold!
